Consular Care: Indian High Commission In UK Launches Initiative To Take Services To Far Flung Areas

In welcome news for members of the Indian diaspora resident in the United Kingdom (UK), the Indian High Commission there is looking to expand easy access to consular services such as passport, visa and attestation to Indian nationals and persons of Indian origin living in far-flung parts of the country, reports The New Indian Express.
According to the Indian High Commissioner to the UK Ruchi Ghanashyam, the measure is part of an array of multiple initiatives being currently undertaken to reach out to the Indian community in the country.
"The High Commission of India will continue its work tirelessly to further consolidate and deepen India-UK ties as well as serve Indian citizens and people of Indian origin in the most efficient and friendly manner," she stated during a Republic Day event at London.
The Indian mission has also been carrying out periodic ‘surgeries’ in different places across the UK, which are essentially exercises during which consular officials aid community members with their paperwork.
Another initiative has been the launch of a walk-in policy at India House in London, open to anyone who requires consular services. The strength of the consular staff has also been notably increased.
"These services are being coordinated on a need-basis and based on requests received from the Indian community members. Our aim is to be able to assist anyone who is unable to make the journey to London or other consulates," a high commission official elaborated.
