Contempt Is King: Pakistan Supreme Court Reimposes Ban On Indian Shows

Supreme Court of Pakistan has once again imposed a ban on films and television shows from India, blocking them from being aired in Pakistan’s channels. This is not the first time Indian content is being blocked. Time and again, the ban gets lifted and reimposed, depending on domestic and international factors.
A case filed by United Producers Association that dealt with foreign content being aired on domestic television channels was heard by the Supreme Court, The New Indian Express reported.
Citing that only “appropriate content” should be aired, the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mian Saqib Nisar, called for a complete shutdown of Indian content being broadcast. He was quoted as saying, “They are trying to (obstruct the construction) of our dam and we cannot even ban their channels?”
Earlier, a ban was imposed on Indian content being broadcast on television and radios in Pakistan by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA). This happened in 2016. In 2017, the High Court of Lahore had lifted the ban, calling it “null and void” since the government did not display any objections.
