Strict measures are sought by the Italian government to tackle the growing menace of novel-coronavirus in the country.
The Italians authorities imposed lockdown on a dozen towns in northern Italy on Saturday after deaths of two people infected with the coronavirus from China and growing cluster of cases, reports The Guardian.
As per report, the emergency plan was brought into action by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte as the number of cases rose to 79. Accordingly, northern regions of Lombardy and Veneto have been effectively quarantined under the plan, where the authorities have asked around 50,000 people to stay at home.
All schools, businesses and restaurants, and sporting events have been suspended including several Serie A matches that were scheduled for the weekend.
Additionally, hundreds of residents and workers who had come into contact with people who tested positive for novel-coronavirus were put into isolation pending results of their tests. Civil protection crews set up a tent camp outside a closed hospital in Veneto to screen medical staff, the report states.
There are also fears that the virus has gone beyond the isolated clusters of cases in Lombardy and Veneto, which will make it very difficult to contain.
