With the highest single-day spike of 9,304 new cases in the last 24 hours, India's total case count of coronavirus jumped to 216,919, the Union Health Ministry data revealed on Thursday (4 June).

According to the Health Ministry, of the total, 106,737 are active cases while at least 104,107 people have been cured of the disease.

At least 260 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total fatality count to 6,075.

Maharashtra, which has emerged as the worst Coronavirus-hit state in the country, has so far recorded 74,860 cases, including 2,587 fatalities, and 32,329 recoveries. Tamil Nadu followed with 25,872 cases. The Covid-19 tally in Delhi has crossed the 23,000-mark with as many as 23,645 cases recorded so far in the national capital. Gujarat has reported 18,100 cases so far.

States with most casualties after Maharashtra are Gujarat (1,122), Delhi (606), Madhya Pradesh (371), and West Bengal (345).

States with more than 8,000 cases are Rajasthan (9,652), Uttar Pradesh (8,729) and Madhya Pradesh (8,588).

Among other states/UTs where corona cases have surged past 2,000-mark are West Bengal (6,508), Bihar (4,390), Andhra Pradesh (4,080), Karnataka (4,063), Telangana (3,020), Haryana (2,954), Jammu and Kashmir (2,857), Punjab (2,376) and Odisha (2,388).

According to the Health Ministry, 7,483 cases are being re-assigned to states.
