Union Minister for Health Dr. Harsh Vardhan on Wednesday (4 March) conducted a press conference to update the nation on the Novel Coronavirus and the government’s preparedness to tackle the possible outbreak.
The Minister confirmed that six relatives of the infected Delhi patient have been tested positive for the virus in Uttar Pradesh’s (UP) Agra.
“On conducting contact tracing of the person tested positive in Delhi, we came to know that he infected 6 members of his family who are in Agra. All 6 members tested positive for coronavirus,” said Dr. Harsh Vardhan.
He also confirmed that as many as 16 Italian tourists including one person in Jaipur, his wife and 14 others in New Delhi have also been tested positive for the CoVid-19. One Indian driver who was with the Italian tourist groups has also been infected with the virus.
In total 28 positive cases have so far been found in India, said the Minister. This also includes the man infected in Hyderabad and three Kerala students tested positive earlier. However, the Kerala students have recovered from the disease now.
While assuring that the government has been taking all the necessary steps to stop the outbreak, he said a high level meeting was going to be held at 3:00pm today.
The Health Minister also urged people to take to preventive measures and maintain proper hygiene including washing hands, using tissues and masks.
