COVID-19: Test Positivity Rate Doubles From Eight Per Cent To 16.7 Per Cent Over The Last 12 Days

In an alarming development, the daily COVID-19 test positivity rate in the country has doubled from eight per cent to 16.7 per cent over the last 12 days, with the State of Chhattisgarh recording a phenomenally high rate of 30.3 per cent, reports Times of India.
The national weekly positivity rate has also seen a surge from three per cent to 13.5 per cent in the last month. States like Goa, Maharashtra and Rajasthan has recorded a weekly positivity rate of 24.2 per cent, 24.1 per cent and 23.3 per cent in the week from 11-17 April. Madhya Pradesh and Ladakh have also witnessed a significant surge.
It should also be noted that over the last fortnight, other than Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Delhi have also been reporting a steep rise in overall fresh cases. Between 4-17 April, UP's daily tally of fresh cases has surged from 4,033 to 24,375.
During the same period, Karnataka, Kerala, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu have also witnessed a steep rise in fresh cases, placing the healthcare infrastructure under pressure.
Meanwhile, the nation has conducted between 11.73 lakh to 15.66 lakh tests each day over the past 12 days.
