Turkey has emerged as the most affected nation by COVID-19 after the United States (US) and Europe with a surge of 3,977 in the confirmed cases in the nation yesterday (19 April), reports Hindustan Times.
As a result of the surge in confirmed cases observed yesterday, the total number of confirmed cases in Turkey have reached 86,306, taking its tally to more than what China has officially reported so far. The total cases in China stand at 82,747.
The figures were revealed by Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca who also shared that so far a total of 2,017 persons have lost their lives, while 11,976 have successfully recovered from the disease which has wreaked havoc globally.
As a nation, Turkey is now home to the seventh-largest chunk of confirmed cases of COVID-19. It should be noted that Turkey had reported its first confirmed case only on 10 March, since when the total tally has risen sharply. So far, the nation has conducted 6,34,000 sample tests.
