The Communist Party of India (CPI) has appealed to the Supreme Court to reconsider its order mandating movie halls to play the national anthem before shows. They wrote a letter to Chief Justice T S Thakur in this regard. But the party's arguments are bizarre. They argue:
- Playing the national anthem before movies is akin to showcasing "vulgar dance along with traditional classical dance".
But Narayana's motive seems more motivated to save his fellow-ideologues, who do not want to stand up for the national anthem, from being arrested. The 12 who were arrested from two venues of the International Film Festival of Kerala earlier this week for not standing up for the national anthem turned out to be communist sympathisers.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
