Massive cyber virus attack brought down the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)'s systems including servers, email and IP phones for nearly 24 hours on Monday (29 June), reports Times of India.

The attack was based on severe ransomware which kept the systems down till yesterday evening, with there also being the possibility of compromised data and information sensitive to NHAI's and nation's interests.

A detailed diagnosis has been launched to decipher the source and consequences of the attack.

As per a statement issued by the NHAI, the attack came into effect on Sunday night. The systems were shut down immediately upon detection of the attack from a safety point of view and have now been restored.

NHAI's data-lake which serves as the central repository of all information related to projects have remained unaffected though and there has been no loss of data.

“A ransomware attack on NHAI email server took place yesterday (Sunday) night. The attack was foiled by the security system and email servers were shut down from safety point of view. The system is restored now. No data loss took place. NHAI data-lake and other systems remained unaffected from this attack,” said the statement.
