Following allegations of corruption and lack of transparency on the Rafale fighter jet deal levelled by the Congress against the government, the Ministry of Defence today (7 February) released a statement clarifying their position on the same.

In its statement, the ministry refutes the allegations levelled by the Congress and further clarifies how it has been misleading and giving damaging statements regarding the deal. The statement clarifies how the erstwhile UPA government sat on negotiations even as there was an alarming decline in the strength of fighter jets.

The statement asserts that the contract that the government entered into in 2016 is better in terms of capability, price, equipment, delivery, maintenance, and training among others.

It also refuted the Congress’ claims of prior negotiations having a clause for transfer of technology. The statement says that previous negotiations did not have any provision for transfer of technology but only to manufacture under licence.
