In a bid to boost the domestic tourism, the Central government has decided to reward people visiting 15 tourist spots of the country in a year, reports Money Control.
According to the report, the Centre, as a reward, would fund the expenses of those who travel to at least 15 tourist destinations in India.
The Ministry of Tourism has launched a programme called ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ with an aim to encourage people to visit different tourist destinations in the country. The details of the programme have been put on a website, where Indians can pledge to travel at least 15 tourist spots across the country in a year.
"The tourism ministry will fund the travel expenses of tourists who visit 15 destinations in the country in a year and submit the photos on our website," Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel had said on 24 January at the concluding ceremony of the two-day National Tourism Conference in Odisha’s Konark.
In order to be eligible for the programme, the travellers need to first pledge and then upload photos on the website after visiting any 15 tourists locations in a year. However, one needs to travel outside of their home state to qualify for the programme.
As per the report, the expenses that will be provided by the Tourism Ministry should not be construed as monetary benefit, but as an incentive.
“Prime Minister Modi had urged Indians to visit at least 15 domestic tourist destinations by 2022, our campaign aims to make that pledge a reality," Patel said, reports Business Today.
Patel further said that the Tourism ministry aims to start a mass movement to encourage every Indian to visit more domestic destinations as this will help in boost local as well as national economy.
