The State of Assam is set to witness the much-delayed delimitation exercise to redefine the division of the State into territorial constituencies for the purpose of elections to the State as well as the General Assembly, reports Asian News International (ANI).

As per an order issued by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice in this regard, the exercise’s implementation has already received the nod from President Ram Nath Kovind.

It should be noted that the delimitation exercise was carried out across the nation in 2008, leaving four states untouched. The President had deferred the delimitation exercise in Assam in the light that the exercise’s implementation could cause a threat to peace and public order.

Apart from Assam, the other States where the delimitation exercise was not implemented then were Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.

In the present day scenario, it is believed that the reduction in insurgency and bolstering of law and order situation in the State has made the situation conducive for carrying out the exercise.
