Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Highway Project: Work To Begin On Punjab’s First Expressway After State Govt, NHAI Talks

Punjab is set to witness the construction of its first ever expressway zoom ahead at a brisk pace as the State Chief Minister (CM) Amarinder Singh and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) chairman Sukhbir Singh Sandhu agreed to expedite the work on the proposed Delhi-Amritsar-Katra expressway, reports The Financial Express.
The project, of which around 300 kilometres would pass through the state of Punjab would be completed at a cost of Rs 30,000 crore. Of the total sum, a total of Rs 10,000 crore is expected to be spent in acquiring land in Punjab alone.
Once completed, the project would go on to provide fast and seamless road connectivity between national capital of Delhi and Katra in the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) via Amritsar in Punjab.
The project would be a completely access-controlled state-of-the-art expressway alignment with an approximate total length of over 600 kilometres. It is being implemented under government of India's ambitious Bharatmala project which is being spearheaded by Union Minister for Transport Nitin Gadkari.
