Delhi High Court Imposes Cost Of Rs 10,000 On Kejriwal In Jaitley Defamation Case

The Delhi High Court imposed a cost of Rs 10,000 on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today (26 July) for not having filed a response to the second defamation suit filed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, reported Press Trust of India (PTI).
In the meanwhile, Kejriwal has been granted two weeks of extension to file his response.
Jaitley had filed a Rs 10 crore defamation suit on Kejriwal over the use of an objectionable word said allegedly by the Chief Minister’s now-former lawyer, Ram Jethmalani.
On 23 May, the court had sought a response from Kejriwal on why defamation proceedings should not be initiated against him.
The court also directed Kejriwal not to ask "scandalous" questions to Jaitley during his cross-examination. No person can be subjected to scandalous and abusive language in the garb of cross-examination, PTI reported the court as saying.
