Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Highway Inaugurated By PM Modi

Built with the aim to cut travel time from Delhi to Meerut from the current 2.5 hours to just 45 minutes, the first phase of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway was today (27 May) inaugurated by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi.
The 9-km long Delhi section of the Expressway, built at a cost of Rs 842 crore to decongest the national capital, consists of 6 lane expressway and 4+4 lane highway, as reported by News18.
The first phase of the project was completed in just 18 months, with the entire project scheduled for completion by March 2019.
PM Modi held a roadshow to mark the inauguration.
The 135-km long Eastern Peripheral Expressway was also inaugurated by the PM today. The expressway has been built in a record 17 months, with the aim of signal free connectivity between Ghaziabad, Greater Noida, Faridabad and Palwal and as reported by NDTV.
The expressway will connect Uttar Pradesh and Haryana bypassing the national capital and will help diverting 52,000 vehicles daily. The foundation stone for the project was laid in November 2015.
The entire stretch is lit by solar power and has rain water harvesting systems at every 500 meters of the route on both sides. 2.5 lakh trees too have been planted along the route with several 8-10 year old trees transplanted. The total cost of the project was Rs 11,000 crore.
