Delhi Metro To Get Phase IV By 2025: DMRC Projects 10 Lakh Daily Ridership, But Fares To Be Higher

The six proposed corridors of the Delhi Meto’s phase IV which are likely to be commissioned in 2025 are expected to carry ten lakh commuters per day with fares ranging between Rs 20 and Rs 100, The Indian Express has reported.
These projections are part of the financial viability segment of the detailed project report (DPR) of phase IV of the project prepared by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
DMRC estimates come at a time when Delhi’s finance department had expressed its doubt on the proposed corridors qualifying for a high capacity metro even by the year 2031.
DMRC, in the report, estimated that all the six corridors, including those three which are declared non-viable by the Delhi Government, will see an average daily ridership of 10 lakh in 2025.
‘Financing Options, Fare Structure and Financial Viability’ segment of the report pegs daily ridership of the metro at 15.50 lakh by the year 2031 and 22.32 lakh by 2041.
However, the number of commuters travelling daily by metro has fallen to nearly 25 lakh per day after the fare hike in 2017.
According to the report, DMRC has estimated the fare slabs to range between Rs 20 and Rs 100.
Rs 20 will be the fare for a travel distance of 0-2 km, Rs 30 for 2-5 km, Rs 50 for 5-12 km, Rs 60 for 12-21 km, Rs 80 for 21-32 km and Rs 100 for travel distance above 32 km.
The projected date for completion of the phase IV of the project is 31 December 2024 with the commissioning being from 1 January 2025.
