To keep up with the ever increasing footfall and the need for maintaining efficiency, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is all set to infuse state-of-the-art monitoring equipment in metro trains, reports Financial Express.

DMRC is mulling to replace time based maintenance with the one based on condition, thus eliminating chances of any unnecessary maintenance. Delhi metro wants to come up with a measure to monitor the health of the whole system, where components which are running with a risk of developing glitches are detected and replaced soon.

The new equipment will help in defecting faults in the major components of the rake such as bearings, springs, wheels, suspensions, etc, and will generate an alarm.

Currently, the trains of Delhi metro are micro-processor controlled. With the addition of new equipment, the system will also keep a constant check on different on-board systems as well as components.

DMRC is also eyeing to be the first railway network in the world to be 100 per cent reliant on green energy. As part of the initiative, the corporation has already received 27MW power from the Rewa Solar Power Project. As of now, the DMRC is using the solar energy generated from the solar panels on the roof tops of its stations for auxiliary purposes; like to lit up the stations, depots, run ACs etc.
