The proposed extension of Delhi Metro’s Red Line from Dilshad Garden to New Bus Adda Ghaziabad has received the green light from the Union Cabinet today (Thursday, 24 January), reports News 18.

The extended line will run across a distance of 9.41 km spanning eight stations, namely Rajendra Nagar, Mohan Nagar, Shyam Park Arthala, Shahid Nagar, Raj Bagh, Hindon River and New Bus Adda. This new extension of the red line will help improve connectivity between Ghaziabad and the rest of Delhi-NCR. Stations of this line have been particularly designed with the construction of buildings on both sides of the road as well as either way from the platform.

“The total cost of the line is about Rs 1,710 crore, along with a grant by the Center. The rolling stock is being provided by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and land has been provided free of cost by the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA),” stated an official.

The entirety of the new section will be created on an elevated structure. Once the extension is complete, it will increase the total length of the Red Line which currently runs from Rithala to Dilshad Garden from 25.09 km to 34.50 km.
