Delhi Police Detains Over 200 People In Connection With Violence At The Tractor Rally Yesterday

The tractor rally, yesterday, meant to highlight demands of the farmers unions quickly took a violent turn as the protesters refused to adhere to the regulations of the police. Hundreds of farmers riding tractors, bikes and cars reach Red Fort portico and enter its premises and hoist the farmer union flags and saffron pennant with a Sikh religious symbol on the first rampart of the iconic 17th century monument.
In the latest development, the Delhi police has announced that it has detained 200 people in connection with violence during farmers' tractor rally. Delhi Police has so far registered 22 FIR and has stated that the culprits would soon be detained, reports ZEE News.
“15 FIRs have been registered in connection with the violence during farmers' tractor rally yesterday. So far, 5 FIRs have been lodged in Eastern Range,” sources from the law enforcement agency were quoted in an early morning report.
They have registered FIR under IPC Sec 395 (dacoity), 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 120 b (punishment of criminal conspiracy) and other sections, regarding yesterday's violence.
“The FIR has been registered in connection with the violence at Red Fort in Delhi during farmers' tractor rally yesterday. The matter will be investigated by the Crime Branch”, they added.
Over 300 police personnel were injured in the violence that ensued along with the rally. The Delhi Police reportedly said, “Additional DCP Central`s operator was attacked with a sword at ITO on Tuesday during the violence.”
The video footages showed protesters attacking the police personnel with lathis and swords in hands. They were also seen ramming their tractors in the buses parked by police in the ITO area of the Capital.
Security has been heightened around Red Fort and multiple important points across the city.
Thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh have been camping at the several borders of the national capital since 26 November last year demanding the repealing of the three farm laws. Eleven rounds of talks of farmers with the farmers in last two months have remained inconclusive.
