Delhi Police Registers 22 FIRs Over Violence In Farmers’ Tractor Rally On Republic Day

Delhi Police has so far registered 22 FIRs with respect to the violence and massive disruption that erupted in the farmers’ protests at New Delhi on the Republic Day, ANI reports. Apparently, 15 FIRs were lodged by 8 am as the developments are proceeding thick and fast thereafter.
“15 FIRs have been registered in connection with the violence during farmers' tractor rally yesterday. So far, 5 FIRs have been lodged in Eastern Range,” sources from the law enforcement agency were quoted in an early morning report.
Metro services were halted in several stations whereas internet was cut off in the national capital’s border points such as Ghazipur, Tikri, Singhu, Nangloi, Mukarba Chowk.
These are the areas where the agitating farmers had gathered for a couple of months before breaking the norms of their tractor rally and indulging in large-scale violence on 26 January.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with senior officials from the ministry to assess the law and order situation in the city. The situation was particularly grave in ITO and the Red Fort as the Nishan Sahib flag was also raised in the latter. 83 officials from the Delhi Police suffered injuries during the clashes with the agitating farmers.
