Delhi: Tremors Felt In Capital, Nearby Areas As Third Mild Earthquake Hits In One Month

Mild earthquake tremors were felt on Sunday afternoon (10 May) in the National Capital Territory (NCT) of New Delhi and nearby areas, which is the third instance of low-level quake in a month’s time in the region.

According to an NDTV report, the intensity of the tremors was measured 3.4 at Richter Scale, while the epicentre was spotted near Delhi-Ghaziabad (UP) border. There have been no reports of loss of property or life so far.

“Intensity was 3.4 at Richter Scale. Epicentre was near Delhi-UP Border,” Met Department Director Seismology, JL Gautam was quoted by the website as saying.

The tremors were felt in some areas at around 1:45pm at a depth of five kilometres, news agency PTI reported.

The epicentre for previous two earthquake, that hit the region last month, were also recorded to be near UP-Delhi border.

Delhi and nearby areas fall under the fourth of the give seismic zones based on the likelihood of being an epicentre of an earthquake. The capital has lately been at the risk of a high intensity earthquake, according to experts.
