A member of the Delhi University’s academic council has alleged that the content of the revised syllabus of English Journalism course attempts to target the RSS and its affiliate organizations, reports The New Indian Express.

The updated syllabus of English Journalism course contains chapters on Muzaffarnagar riots and lynching incidents, said DU academic council member Rasal Singh.

Singh also said that the source material of such chapters have been taken from biased news portals which have often criticised the government.

"They are targeting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its affiliate organisations, even our prime minister. I will raise the issue in the Academic Council meeting on Monday (15 July) and ensure it is not passed," Singh was quoted in the report as saying.

Meanwhile, DU’s undergraduate syllabus revision committee has already flagged the issue and controversial portions in the course will be revised, sources were cited in the report as saying.

"In a meeting held on 11 July, the updated syllabus was accepted, but since the chapter's summary was given, nobody realised what it actually meant. It was later felt that it might hurt the sentiments of a particular community and project things in a biased manner. The syllabus is being revised," a professor privy to the development said.
