Mayawati
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati, addressing an election rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr today, came out in open support of Triple Talaq, calling government’s effort to enforce Uniform Civil Code in the country ‘troubling’ and an ‘interference’. In a similar fashion last year, she had asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to not “force his opinion and decision” on the believers of any particular religion by “following the RSS agenda”.
She also blamed BJP for planting fictitious opinion polls. Recent opinion polls, conducted by Times Now and other news agencies, have concluded that the former chief minister’s party will win between 47 to 98 seats in the elections. BSP has, in an attempt to garner votes in constituencies that are dominated by Muslims, fielded 97 candidates from the community.
Mayawati accused the Centre of working to implement the ‘agenda’ of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Bharatiya Janata Party will eliminate reservations and facilities given to minorities if it comes to power, she said in order to instil fear in the minority community.
