The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) announced today (9 November) that a memorandum seeking the removal of Governor R N Ravi has been submitted to President Droupadi Murmu by MPs belonging to the Secular Progressive Alliance, which consists of the DMK and its allies.

The leaders wrote in the memorandum that Ravi had been obstructing the work of the legislature by delaying assent to bills and gave a list of 20 bills for which the Governor’s assent is pending.

Most of the bills are the ones amending the acts of various universities in the state to take away the power of the Governor to appoint vice-chancellors.

Some of the other bills mentioned are The Tamil Nadu Business Facilitation (Amendment) Bill, 2022, The Tamil Nadu Transparency in Tenders (Amendment) Bill, 2022 and the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Online Gambling and Regulation of Online Games Bill, 2022.

Also highlighted were Ravi’s remarks on Sanatana Dharma and Thirukkural, which the DMK-led alliance had strongly opposed.

They said that while Ravi’s remarks on the Thirukkural amounted to "communalising" it, his remarks on Sanatana Dharma were "against secularism".
