Union home minister has dismissed an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from service over allegations of an extramarital relationship filed by his lawful wife, reports Press Trust of India (PTI).

Home ministry is the cadre-controlling authority of IPS officers. “Pankaj Kumar Chaudhary, currently serving as the Commandant of Police Training School, Jhalawar was found guilty of grave misconduct,” said an official statement.

Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Choudhary was a 2009-batch IPS officer of Rajasthan cadre. He is alleged to have established extramarital relations with a woman other than his legally-wedded wife, and of having fathered a child with the said woman.

“Chaudhary married on 4 December 2005 and legally separated on 1 May 2018. During this period, he entered into a relationship with another woman and fathered a child from her. The male child was born on 14 May 2011 in Jaipur,” noted the Order.

Thus, the officer violated rule 3(1) of the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968 which provides that every member of the service shall at all times maintain absolute integrity and devotion to duty and shall do nothing which is unbecoming of a member of the service.

The inquiry against Pankaj Kumar Choudhary (44) was initiated in April 2016 on complaint from his wife.

The IPS officer has stated that he will challenge the order at Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT).
