Don't Want To Burden Central Govt Amid Covid, Will Manage Through Own Resources: CM Naveen Patnaik On Aftermath Of Cyclone

Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi visited Odisha on Friday (28 May). He chaired review meetings to assess the impact of cyclone Yaas. The PM also undertook an aerial survey of the areas affected by the cyclone in the state.

Expressing gratitude to the PM for visiting Odisha in the aftermath of Cyclone Yaas, CM Naveen Patnaik said that the state government has not sought any immediate financial assistance to avoid burdening the central government amid Covid19 pandemic.

The Chief Minister said that Odisha will manage through its own resources to tide over the crisis. The CM sought assistance to undertake long term measures from the centre to make Odisha disaster resilient as the state is frequented by climate hazards every year.

The CM apprised the PM about the need for the state to have climate resilient power infrastructure and resilient coastal protection with storm surge embankments.

“Thank you Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi ji for visiting Odisha in the aftermath of Cyclone Yaas. Apprised him about the large-scale devastation caused by the cyclone and steps taken by the State Govt ahead of the cyclone and the ongoing restoration efforts,” CM Naveen Patnaik said in a tweet.

“As the country is at the peak of COVID19 pandemic, we have not sought any immediate financial assistance to burden the Central Govt and would like to manage it through our own resources to tide over the crisis,” he added.
