India has entered into agreements with Bangladesh and South Korea to make DD India available to viewers in the two countries respectively as part of a new bilateral deal signed with the two countries, Mint has reported.

In return, Bangladesh’s BTV World and South Korea’s KBS World will now be made available on DD Free Dish, which has nearly 35 million subscribers across the country.

This is as per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Prasar Bharati and Bangladesh TV (BTV) on 7 May. BTV World would be of special interest to the viewers of West Bengal and the decision marks an important watershed in the strengthening of ties between the two countries.

Also, an earlier decision was taken by the two Governments to co-produce a film on Banga Bandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which will be directed by India’s most famous parallel cinema film Director/Producer Shyam Benegal.

Speaking to media persons, I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar said “this agreement will help India’s strategy to strengthen its relationships with neighbouring countries and other Asian nations and will help promote robust cultural exchange”.
