DTU ‘Part-Time’ Engineering Degrees: University Claims ‘Printing Error’ After Students Take It To Court

Delhi High Court, in a case filed by the students of Delhi Technological University (DTU) over a degree row, has issued notices to the varsity, HRD Ministry, University Grants Commission (UGC) and Athe ll India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Indian Express has reported.
The students, hailing from DTU’s evening B Tech programme, alleged that the university “misguided” them over the mode of the four-year engineering course. They claimed that before admission, they were told by the university that it was a full-time course, but were later informed that it was part-time.
“The prospectus does not state that the course is part-time. We only got to know about it after filling an RTI,” key plaintiff in the case, Aparnendu Ram Tripathi was quoted in the report as saying.
He claimed that while university’s notification calls the course ‘regular’, the degrees they are receiving is that of ‘part-time’. He was apprehensive about ‘part-time’ degree reducing their chances of getting a government job.
According to the report, Sajan Shankar Prasad, who is appearing for the students, confirmed that notices have been issued to the parties involved in the matter.
However, Dean (students welfare) Samsher told the paper that university has not received any notice yet. However, he admitted to a “printing error” from the university’s side in the prospectus.
Samsher said that the course has been running for decades as a part-time course. He alleged that someone misguided the students.
