The ‘Hatyog’ organised in Bhopal by religious guru Namdev Tyagi, popularly known as ‘Computer Baba’, in favour of Congress candidate Digvijaya Singh, has come under the Election Commission’s scanner, with the monitoring body launching an investigation into the issue, reports DNA.

Computer Baba launched his Hatyog programme on Tuesday (7 May) for the purpose of supporting Singh in the Lok Sabha election from Bhopal constituency against his primary opponent, BJP candidate Pragya Thakur.

The probe has been launched after complaints from the BJP. Heading the investigation is the District Election Commissioner and Bhopal Collector Sudama Khade. The probe will be looking into the details of whether there were any official permissions taken for the programme, and the extent to which money was involved.

Computer Baba has been claiming that up to 5,000-7,000 Hindu seers would participate in the Hatyog and pray for a victory for Singh.

The religious leader used to serve as a minister in the government of former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, but has now switched sides to back the Congress party. The new state government under Chief Minister Kamal Nath has made him the chairman of a river trust.
