Sambit Patra (R) with PM Narendra Modi (L) (@sambitswaraj/Twitter)
As counting continues across the country for the present Lok Sabha elections, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra has now taken a narrow lead over his Biju Janata Dal (BJD) opponent and the incumbent Pinaki Misra in the constituency of Puri, Odisha.
Overall, the BJD seems to be maintaining its advantage in the state with leads in 14 Lok Sabha seats. BJP candidates have leads in seven seats.
Still, BJP’s performance as indicated by the early trends in the state could be a substantial improvement over the 2014 general elections, when it was only able to secure a single seat.
