In the hotly contested Anantnag in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), former chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is trailing behind J&K National Conference (JKNC) candidate Hasnain Masoodi and also Congress candidate Ghulam Ahmad Mir.

While Mufti, who belongs to the People’s Democratic party (PDP), has secured only 15,725 votes, Hasnain Masoodi is on track to win the seat with 22,463 votes.

Mir of the Congress occupies the second position with over 21,400 votes.

During the heated election campaign, Mufti had courted controversy by stating that the Indian Army will become an ‘occupational force’ in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) if Article 370 is revoked.

Continuing with the belligerent rhetoric, she added that BJP national president Amit would not be permitted to set foot in the state if its special status is withdrawn. Mufti also said that every single Kashmiri would fight to preserve Article 35A.
