‘Electric Is The Way Forward’ Says Andhra Government: Set To Replace All State Vehicles With E-Vehicles

The government of Andhra Pradesh will be replacing all vehicles in the state that the it hires with electric vehicles in order to control pollution and save energy, The New Indian Express has reported. Within the next 30 days, more than 300 vehicles will be replaced across Tirupati, East Godavari, Vishakapatnam, Vijayawada and Guntur.

More than 4,000 vehicles are expected to be replaced by February 2019. Government of Andhra Pradesh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) that demands the production and supply of over 10,000 e-vehicles. One of the major manufacturers being Mahindra.

“Now the procedures for exemption of registration and road tax for e-vehicles are over, the new-breed of the pollution-free vehicles could be seen on the roads in the State in coming days,” New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) Managing Director M Kamalakar Babu told The New Indian Express.

According to reports, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is aiming to set an example for other states by adapting e-vehicles. In order to achieve this, the state government has already introduced the Electric Mobility Policy for 2018-2023. This plan includes shelling out exemptions for road tax and registration.
