End Of Chase? Vijay Mallya Stares At Extradition As UK Court Gives Corresponding Orders To Home Office

In the latest development in the Vijay Mallya case, the United Kingdom (UK) Home Office has confirmed that it has received the orders for the extradition of fugitive liquor baron Vijay Mallya to India, from the Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
Mallya is accused of fraud and money laundering money worth Rs 9,000 crore.
Now, the UK Home Office has two months to decide on the extradition, and the decision lies with Home Secretary Sajid Javid- the senior most British-Pakistani minister in the UK Cabinet.
“If after considering the case, the Home Secretary thinks extradition should go ahead, he has to order the extradition within two months of the date the matter was referred to him,” said a spokesperson for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), who argued on behalf of the Indian government. “Whatever that decision, the losing side has up to 14 days within which to approach the High Court and seek leave to appeal,” said a spokesperson of the UK Home Office as reported by Financial Express.
However, Mallya’s side has claimed that he will be ‘carefully considering’ his options and refrained from making further comments.
