Environment And Pocket Friendly: India Ratifies Membership Of Collaboration Programme For New and Alternative Fuels

Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has ratified India’s membership in Advanced Motor Fuels Technology Collaboration Programme (AMF TCP) under the International Energy Agency (IEA) on 9 May, 2018, reports Mercom India.
India’s Ministry of Science and Technology, and the IEA have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi which aims at enhancing innovation for the clean energy transition.
The motive behind this entry into advanced motor and alternative fuels’ market was to bring down emission levels and achieve higher fuel efficiency in the transport sector. This will also give the government an opportunity for fuel analysis, identifying new and alternative fuels for transport sector and allied research for emission reduction in sectors that have heavy fuel consumption.
Keeping in mind the initiatives such as Make in India, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and Skill Development investing interests in biofuels is of great strategic importance. As per estimates provided by the government,10 million liters of E-10 saves ₹280 million (equivalent to $3.86 million) of forex at current rates.
AMF TCP is an international platform for cooperation among countries with an aim to promote cleaner and more energy efficient fuel and vehicular technologies under the framework of International Energy Agency (IEA). India holds the “Association” status since March 30, 2017.
India has joined as the 16th member of AMF TCP. The other member countries are the U.S., China, Japan, Canada, Chile, Israel, Germany, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Spain, Republic of Korea, Switzerland, and Thailand.
