Former IAS bureaucrat from the Punjab cadre, S S Channy, formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today at the party’s Delhi headquarters, reports AIR News.
He was inducted into the party by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. Channy has previously served as the home minister as well as the chief information commissioner of Punjab.
The ex-civil servant’s entry into the BJP follows several other individuals from an IAS background joining the ruling party in recent months.
Aparajita Sarangi, an Indian Administrative Officer (IAS) of the Odisha cadre, opted for voluntary retirement in early 2018. She officially joined the party on 27 November, being inducted by party president Amit Shah.
Just last month, former Karnataka Chief Secretary K Ratna Prabha joined the party in the presence of senior BJP leader and former Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.

Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
