Security issues are propping up in Kerala as left-wing extremists and militants from a few states in the country are using the state as a hideout spot. Disguised as migrant workers, they enter the state to plan their nefarious activities under cover. Normally, workers are supposed to submit their government-approved IDs such as Voter ID and Aadhaar, but it is said that these individuals are getting away with using school certificates.
On Thursday (29 November), three Bodo militants were arrested from Perumbavoor. The New Indian Express quoted DySP Venu as saying, “We have been directing the local factories and other units to collect valid IDs from those coming from Northeastern states, but they pay scant regard to our directions. It’s not possible for the police to do door-to-door verification as hundreds of people from Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Assam reach Perumbavoor every day.”
Central agencies have made a number of arrests from Kerala, and that has left officials worried over the security situation.
Several CPI (Maoist) members have been arrested over the past 10 years from Kerala. Some of the notable arrests include that of Hyder Ali (Engineer Ali) who is a extremist, Paravai Badusha, a prime accused in several terror cases and Zia-Ur-Rehman alias Waqas, a Pakistani citizen, who disguised himself as a labourer.
