Facebook Inc is considering rebranding the company with a new name that focuses on the metaverse, as per a report by the Reuters.
The social media giant’s chief executive officer (CEO) Mark Zuckerberg will be discussing the proposed change of name in the company’s Connect conference that will be held on 28th October.
However, Facebook’s original application and service might remain unchanged in its branding.
A spokesperson from the company denied addressing this issue to Reuters as it maintained that they do not comment on ‘rumour or speculation’.
Zuckerberg has expressed previously that the metaverse holds the key for Facebook’s future. It is a concept through which the users will be living, working and exercising in a virtual universe. Facebook’s Oculus virtual reality headsets and service are also essential towards realising that vision.
Moreover, the Zuckerberg-founded company will also be hiring around 10,000 employees in the European Union (EU) in the coming years in order to build this proposed metaverse.
“In the coming years, I expect people will transition from seeing us primarily as a social media company to seeing us as a metaverse company,” Zukcerberg’s statement from a few months ago was quoted by the news agency.
