‘Farooq Abdullah Is Neither Arrested Nor Detained, He Is Willingly Sitting At Home’: Amit Shah Rubbishes Allegations

Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday (6 August) shot down allegations that former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah had been detained or been kept under arrest.
Several opposition MPs had alleged that the debate on revoking Article 370 was incomplete as prominent Kashmiri leader Farooq Abdullah of the J&K National Conference was missing from the house.
A few opposition MPs also hinted that Abdullah couldn’t attend the session as he had been detained on the ruling NDA’s orders. The Home Minister, Amit Shah, however, dismissed the allegations saying that he Abduallah was not under any duress.
As the question was repeated by several MPs, including NCP MP Supriya Sule who claimed that she was well-acquainted with Abdullah, Shah . answered that it was upto Abdullah to attend the session and that he was willingly sitting at home instead.
Abduallah however, has claimed that he couldn’t leave his house as the ‘state is being burnt and people are being executed in jails’. He added that he wanted democracy and secularism to return to the country.
"I want to leave a message for people of my state and people of India - We have been with you through thick and thin, I hope you will be with us through thick and thin and pray for return of democracy, secularism in our country," he said.
