In a major development, a hospital in Chennai has installed a Walk-in Simple Kiosk or WISK for easy and safer sample collection to test Covid-19, without the requirement of Personal Protective Equipments (PPE), reports India Today.
The state's health minister C Vijayabaskar took to twitter to share a video on Wednesday (8 April) and said, "Chennai Stanley Hospital has installed the #WISK, Walk-in simple kiosk for easy & safer sample collection to test #COVID19 without PPE’s. The kiosk is fully sealed and comes with a pair of gloves which will be cleaned with sanitizer after every use. @MoHFW_INDIA."
The development comes as a shot in the arm for the healthcare workers who are at the major risk of contraction of the novel coronavirus.
India is roughly testing 20,000 samples per day and the plan is to scale this up to 100,000 samples per day within the next few weeks.
The enhanced usage of technology to reduce the contact as much as possible and tightening of precautionary measures are the key measures to combat this virus.
