National General Secretary of the BJP Ram Madhav hailed the decision to abolish Article 370 and commented that finally the martyrdom of thousands of Indian starting from Jan Sangh founder Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, is being honoured.
“What a glorious day. Finally the martyrdom of thousands starting with Dr Shyam Prasad Mukharjee for compete integration of J&K into Indian Union is being honoured and the seven decade old demand of the entire nation being realised in front of our eyes; in our lifetime. Ever imagined?”, tweeted Ram Madhav.
As reported, Mukherjee, who was part of the Nehru Cabinet till his protest resignation over the Nehru-Liaqat Ali Pact in 1952, decided to enter Jammu and Kashmir in defiance of the restrictive laws then in place.
He was arrested on 11 May 1953 while crossing the border and jailed under extremely harsh conditions without proper medical treatment for his ailment—dry pleurisy. He died under mysterious circumstances on 23 June 1953 and was widely suspected to have been killed.
