An FIR has been filed against controversial AIMIM and former Maharashtra MLA Waris Pathan for his statement that 15 crore Muslims are more than a match for the country's 100 crore Hindus, reports India Today.
Pathan has been booked under sections 117 (abetting commission of an offence by the public), 153 (provocation with intent to cause riot) and 153A (promoting enmity between different groups) of the Indian Penal Code, as per the report.
Earlier, he was recorded making an inflammatory speech in an anti-CAA rally in Karnataka’s Gulbarga.
A clip of the same was reported by ANI.
In the video Pathan can be heard saying that, “they cannot compete with our firebrand speeches, we have learned how to pay back in the same coin with interest”.
“Aazadi leni padei aur jo chheez mange se nahin milti, use cheen ke lena padega (we have to take our aazadi and have to forcibly take what we are denied)“, added Pathan.
On the topic of Muslim women participation in anti-CAA protests Pathan said, “Until now we have only sent out our lionesses and you are already sweating, now think what will happen if we all came together”.
“Hum 15 crore hain par 100 ke upar bhari hain, yaad rakhna”, said Pathan at the end of the clip.
This has been construed by many as a reference to 15 crore Muslims prevailing over 100 crore people of other religions.
In 2016 Pathan had notably been suspended from the Maharashtra assembly for refusing to chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai.
