India’s first confirmed case of Novel Coronavirus has been reported from Kerala, after a student enrolled at the Wuhan University has tested positive for the same, Times of India has reported.
“One positive case of Novel Coronavirus patient, of a student studying in Wuhan University, has been reported in Kerala”, the Health Ministry has confirmed in a statement.
The patient is said to be stable and is being closely monitored after being put under isolation.
Currently in India at least 10 people are said to placed in isolation wards across Maharashtra over suspicion of being infected by the virus. The health department has sent a total of 18 samples to NIV Pune for testing. NIV Pune had earlier tested and confirmed the Coronavirus infection in the Kerala student.
The Union Health Ministry on Wednesday (29 January) had issued an advisory to citizens, to caution them against travelling to China in light of the Coronavirus outbreak. Around 170 people have died in the country due to the virus.
