Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jiterndra Singh announced on Monday (27 April) that five of the eight Northeastern States are completely free of COVID-19 now, and that the remaining three States have also recorded no new cases over the past few days, reports Economic Times.
The five States which are free of COVID-19 as of now are Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura. Meanwhile, Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram currently have eight, 11 and one COVID-19 patients.
Singh, in a video conferencing with the senior officers of the North Eastern Council (NEC), congratulated the state governments of the region, officials of the DoNER and NEC for maintaining perfect coordination which has made the containment of COVID-19 possible.
During the meeting, Singh also took updates on the various economic activities taking place in the region in the wake of exemptions given by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in different sectors, including the bamboo related activities.
