Kempegowda International Airport (sarangib/Pixabay)
Kempegowda International Airport which handles an average of 55,000 air travellers daily, has opened a new entry for passengers who travel with only a hand baggage as their luggage.
The dedicated gate will ease the throughput and reduce the wait time at the security checkpoint. Passengers can not access the new entrance (Gate No. 5) with trolley luggage and wheelchairs. The move will come as a respite to many passengers as travellers flying with only hand baggage constitute 23 per cent of the total departure traffic.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, KIA operator, the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) says that the new innovative gate system will provide passengers with hassle-free travel experience and boost the airport's overall efficiency.
Kempegowda International Airport is the third-busiest airport by passenger traffic in the country, behind the Delhi and Mumbai Airports, and is the 29th busiest airport in Asia. It handled over 25.04 million passengers in the calendar year 2017 with over 600 aircraft movements a day.
