Police in Uttar Pradesh have taken into custody Wasim, the main accused in the murder of Smriti Irani’s aide in Amethi, Surendra Singh, reports Deccan Chronicle.
Wasim was captured following an encounter in the Shalhapur area yesterday (31 May) in which he was injured by a bullet. He was taken to the hospital for treatment in the aftermath of the incident.
Previously, four other accused in the case, namely Ramchandra, Dharmanath, Golu and Naseem were nabbed by the cops.
Singh was a local BJP leader who had also been the head of Barauli village and was seen to be an active part of Irani’s campaign for defeating Congress president Rahul Gandhi from Amethi in the Lok Sabha elections.
He was shot at his house in Amethi on 25 May, just two days after the results of the Lok Sabha elections were announced and Irani was declared the winner. Singh was taken to the hospital with bullet injuries but could not survive.
