Bengaluru-origin Achuta Kadambi, 29, has been named in the Forbes 2019 “30 under 30” for science. Kadambi currently works as a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The list names 30 emerging stars from 20 industries, making it a total of 600 eminent personalities from across the world.

Kadambi has a Masters degree from Yale, and later pursued his PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His parents lived in Jayanagara, Bengaluru, before migrating to the US, Deccan Herald reported.

In an interview to Deccan Herald, he said, “I used to come to Bengaluru every year for the summers….. I last visited the place a year ago. Because of my parents' background, my experiences have been shaped as the technical rigour of the previous generation. Bengaluru is not only known for technological disruptions, but they are also looking for the social impact of it now.”

He aims to bridge the academic gaps between India and the US. UCLA has collaborations with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru. He was awarded the Best Paper at the International Conference on Computational Photography, Charles Draper Fellowship, Qualcomm 100K Fellowship, Lamelson-MIT student prize etc.
