Former Trinamool Congress strongman and Mamata Banerjee’s lieutenant Mukul Roy joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today (3 November).
Roy – who at one point in time was Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s right-hand man – was sidelined by her and other party leaders in favour of her nephew Abhishek Banerjee. He announced his resignation from the party in late September before resigning from the Rajya Sabha a month later.
He arrived at the BJP headquarters at Ashoka Road in New Delhi to today to formally join the party. He had earlier dismissed rumours that he had plans to float a political outfit of his own.
