Jyoti Krishan Dutt IPS ,former DG NSG
Former Director-General of National Security Guard, Jyoti Krishan(JK) Dutt, died in the evening today (19 May) at Gurugram.
He was admitted to the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on 14 April after his oxygen saturation level fell, where he breathed his last.
He is survived by his wife and two children; a son who works in Noida and a daughter based in the United States of America as per a report in Outlook India.
Dutt was a 1971 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the West Bengal cadre. He served as DG NSG from August 2006 to February 2009.
He also served in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and was once appointed as its officiating director in 2005.
He also had an assignment with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
During his tenure at NSG, he led the Operation Black Tornado during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.
Dutt, and about 200 'black cats' commandos, had taken an IL-76 aircraft of the Aviation Research Centre (ARC) to fly the first batch of the counter-terrorist strike force to Mumbai.
The elite force killed 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists. The terror attack lasted 60-hour killing 166 people and injuring 300 more, including foreigners.
NSG took to Twitter to remember its former DG; "Sh Jyoti Krishan Dutt IPS, former DG NSG ( Aug 2006- Feb 2009) passed away today on 19th May at Gurugram. NSG condoles the sad and untimely demise of former DG and remembers his distinguished service to the Nation.
He will always be remembered for his leadership during Op Black Tornado. May Almighty rest his noble soul in eternal peace and give strength to his family to bear the loss."
