The former Supreme Court Justice AK Sikri has been appointed as an international judge of the prestigious Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC), reports Financial Express.
Sikri has been appointed to the post from 1 August this year by the President of the Republic of Singapore. The former SC judge’s term will expire on 4 January 2021.
The SICC, a division of the Singapore High Court and a part of the Supreme Court of the country, has been desiged to deal with transnational commercial disputes. Currently, the SICC has 16 international judges as part of its panel.
Sikri has previously also served as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, and as the acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. He had been appointed as a judge at the Delhi High Court in 1999. He served in the SC for six years after his elevation to the apex court in April 2013.
The noted judge, after his retirement on 6 March this year, was appointed as the Chairperson of the News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA) by the News Broadcasters Association (NBA).
