France's Safran SA Looking To Build Engine-Repair Facility In India After Massive Orders From IndiGo

In what could be a big win for the Government's Atmanirbhar Bharat pitch, France's Safran SA is said to be considering building an engine-repair facility in the country, reports Economic Times.
The development comes after Safran SA last month won its biggest-ever turbine deal along with its joint venture partner General Electric Company. The joint venture called CFM International was selected by IndiGo to supply engines for 310 new Airbus SE A320-family aircraft.
IndiGo is the world's biggest customer of AIrbus' best-selling A320neo-family of aircraft. It has already ordered 730 of the models. Also, it should be noted that the engine order from IndiGo for CFM International adds to its existing $20 billion contracts with the airline to supply its LEAP-1A engines for 280 jets.
It should be noted that CFM International has already shortlisted Hyderabad and an under-construction airport near New Delhi as two possible locations for its facility. Though, the company's spokesperson has said that a final decision and timing of any project will be linked to global industry recovery and demand for engine maintenance, repair and overhaul services after the pandemic.
